Federation Council has successfully completed significant upgrades to improve safety and parking arrangements outside the popular Corowa Skate Park and BMX track on John Street. The project, aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and addressing parking concerns, has delivered a range of improvements.
The completed works include the installation of new stormwater pipes and pits, 224 meters of new kerb and channel on the western side of John Street, and 120 meters of new footpath to provide a safer, direct route to the Skate Park and BMX track. This new footpath also creates a crucial link to the Rail Trail and Walker Street, improving pedestrian connectivity in the area. Additionally, the car park has been resurfaced with a new stone seal, and parking bays are set to be marked, finalising the project.
Key project achievements include:
Tree removal to facilitate the works.
Installation of 224 meters of new kerb and channel.
Construction of 120 meters of new footpath.
Installation of 185 linear meters of stormwater drainage to Steel Street.
Application of a new stone seal to the car parking area.
Installation of parking bays with line markings (to be completed).
The project was funded through Federation Council's internal programs and the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program R4, demonstrating a commitment to improving local infrastructure and community spaces.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said these improvements are a testament to Council's dedication to providing safe and accessible spaces for our community.
"The new footpath will significantly enhance pedestrian safety, particularly for young people accessing the Skate Park and BMX track, and the upgraded parking area will make visits more convenient for everyone," she said.
"We are delighted to have delivered these enhancements, which not only improve safety but also create better connections within our community. The funding from the LRCI program has been instrumental in allowing us to undertake these critical works."
Council anticipates that the upgraded facilities will be well-received by the community and will contribute to the ongoing enjoyment of the Corowa Skate Park and BMX track. The line marking for the carpark will be completed in the coming weeks, finalising the project.
