Rockhampton Regional Council celebrated the achievements of 23 apprentices and trainees at a graduation ceremony at City Hall today, marking the successful completion of their training in 2024.
The graduates have earned qualifications in areas such as business, horticulture, arboriculture, live production services, and heavy vehicle mechanical technology, equipping them with valuable skills and practical experience.
Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon commended the graduates for their dedication and the positive impact they bring to the community.
"These graduates have gained essential hands-on experience and nationally recognised qualifications, opening doors for future career opportunities," Mr Pardon said.
"This program not only helps individuals grow in their chosen fields but also ensures Council continues to develop skilled local talent to support our region."
Mr Pardon acknowledged the Queensland Government's support through the First Start Funding Program, a part of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, which provided $247,500 in 2024 to fund 15 trainee positions.
"This funding has been crucial in helping us offer meaningful opportunities for locals to develop their skills and contribute to the workforce," Mr Pardon said.
"We are proud of the program's ongoing success and grateful for the collective efforts of everyone involved, from our supervisors to external training providers.
"This initiative continues to strengthen our organisation and community, creating lasting benefits for the entire Rockhampton region."
The 2025 intake is already in progress, with 25 positions, including 15 trainees and 10 apprentices, supported by the First Start Program. Successful applicants will start in January, continuing the program's legacy of skill development and career progression.
