In a move towards gender equity, Moira Shire Council aims to ensure fair access to community sporting facilities for all genders with Council's draft Fair Access Policy and Action Plan.

This policy, developed in collaboration with Sport and Recreation Victoria, VicHealth, and the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, is designed to equip local governments and sport organisations with the necessary tools and knowledge to implement gender-inclusive practices.

Council is committed to supporting an inclusive sporting environment, where all members of the community feel welcome and supported. Council has worked closely with local sports clubs and organisations to develop a draft policy and action plan to ensure facilities are accessible, safe, and equitable for everyone.

Chair Administrator John Tanner AM said historically, woman and girls have had barriers hindering them from participating fully in sports.

"Women and girls often face challenges in participating and progressing in sports. Council's policy aims to eliminate these obstacles by establishing standards that promote equitable access and usage of community sports infrastructure," Mr Tanner said.

"This effort will ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, can benefit from the physical and social advantages of sports."

Members of the community can provide feedback on the draft Fair Access Policy and Action Plan via the Moira Matters website www.moiramatters.com.au/fair-access-policy-and-action-plan Opportunity to provide feedback closes on Sunday 23 June.
