Beam testing

A Council crew will be conducting beam testing in Anson Street (between Torpy and Gardiner) and in Spring Hill. Beam testing is one part of Council's assessment of road conditions, to inform the design of road pavement upgrades. A truck carrying a known weight is driven slowly over a road and specialist measuring equipment is used to determine how much the road surface moves under the weight. By interpreting the amount of vertical movement and horizontal distance over which the road is deflected, specific strength characteristics of the existing pavement and underlying base can be determined.
