Townsville City Council team members are helping to keep the city running smoothly this festive season by working across areas like waste collection and customer service.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said while most Townsville residents were ready to put up their feet and looking forward to spending quality time with family and friends, a number of Council workers were continuing their important work to ensure essential services were delivered.
"Council provides an enormous number of services to the city, including public pools, our Animal Care and Adoption Centre, and our waste collection services. While most of us will be unwrapping presents on Christmas Day or farewelling 2024 with gusto, a portion of our Council team will be hard at work," Cr Greaney said.
"We have a number of quiet achievers who are of course Townsville community members too that keep the city going over the Christmas break.
"While some of our services like our waste facilities close on Christmas Day, our city's bins are collected 365 days a year, so if your bin day is on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day make sure your bins are pulled to the kerb nice and early, placing them half-a-metre apart so our waste team can do their job efficiently so they can get home to their families.
"Council's SERVE Centre at 103 Walker Street will close at 5pm, Tuesday 24 December 2024 and will reopen at 8am, Thursday 2 January 2025. Remember, for urgent enquiries, Council's phone line, click to chat, emails and mail will operate from 27 to 31 December 2024.
"Citylibraries Riverway will be closed on 25, 26 and 27 December and will be open for community members to visit from 10am to 2pm from 28 through to 31 December. The library will return to its regular opening hours on 2 January.
"Townsville Laboratory Services will be closed on Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as New Year's Day, but resume normal operating hours outside of these three dates, providing high-quality testing to the community and neighbouring councils.
"Many of our services will be back for the public in the first week of January, including our galleries and TicketShop. Jump onto Council's website to find out more.
"As people are winding down we hope our community have a wonderful and safe Christmas break and if you see some of our crews out working over the holiday period, give them a wave."
