Whether you are enjoying a relaxing walk to the creek, indulging in a family picnic or competing on one of Australia's top motocross tracks, some great new public facilities are now available at Conondale's Green Memorial Recreation Park.
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson and Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the improvements recently completed by council have been welcomed by locals and visitors alike.
"There was an old, dilapidated toilet block in desperate need of replacement, so the new modern amenities provide a real boost to the area," Mayor Jamieson said.
"This area is a fantastic area of open space for our community and these new facilities will make the experience for local residents and visitors to Green Park or those who want to explore Elaman Creek, so much more enjoyable.
"Plenty of Conondale residents also frequent Green Park and will be well served by this upgrade."
The new amenities building was opened for public use in November, in time for the Remembrance Day Picnic that was arranged by the Conondale Valley Association Inc.
Cr Jenny McKay said the new Conondale amenities block featured the latest in sustainable building design.
"Boasting three unisex toilets, including an ambulant and accessible toilet, the facility is environmentally-friendly and features a rainwater collection and in-ground storage tank," Cr McKay said.
"There is on-site wastewater disposal and all electricity is solar generated, with battery storage on-site.
"It's an extremely innovative design that utilises a web-based monitoring and control system, so tank levels and battery storage levels can be remotely monitored.
"It will also collect usage patterns to help council best service users now and into the future."
Green Park is also home to the Sunshine Coast Motor Cycle Club, which hosts many high-profile events throughout the year, attracting competitors and spectators come from across Australia and the world.
Sunshine Coast Motor Cycle Club President Rodney Heading said the new amenities were a great asset to Green Park.
"During our biggest events we have up to 600 riders and during events like the Australian titles, we have more than 2000 spectators, so to have new facilities is a bonus," Mr Heading said.
"This year we are celebrating our club not only being at Green Park for more than 40 years, but also we are very excited to have recently signed a new 30-year lease with council.
"Our club and the motorcycle community are extremely grateful for council's commitment to Green Park.
"As a club we do everything we can to shop local and support the local towns, especially by supporting the Conondale School and P&C."
