Around 90 community members have helped shape our updated Central Goldfields Shire Draft Local Law 2025-2035.

At a Meeting of Council earlier this week (23/07), Councillors endorsed the Draft Local Law 2025-2035 for community feedback.

The community is invited to review the Draft Local Law 2025-2035 and provide feedback by visiting www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/yourlocallaw until Friday 30 August.

Under the Local Government Act, Council is required to review the Local Law every 10 years.

The Local Law protects our public and private spaces and health and safety. It empowers Council to respond to local issues and protect public and private space as well as the community's health and safety.

The Local Law covers a diverse range of topics across three areas – Roads and Public Places, Environment and Animals and Livestock.

Based on community feedback the Draft Local Law includes a number of changes and additions. Some of the updates are outlined below – with a full list available on the website:

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Liesbeth Long said the updated Draft Local Law was developed to reflect local issues and to address the emerging needs of our community.

"Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide valuable input during the initial community consultation stage.

"Local laws are there for the community to be able to enjoy our wonderful Shire and surroundings. They help keep our community not only safe, but also content, by giving Council the authority to do something about unwanted issues when they happen. This can be such things as unsightly yards, burning off, excessive noise but also how many animals are permitted on people's properties.

"Our Local Law will be in place for the next 10 years, which is a long time, so it's really important to make sure we have it right.

"Now is your chance to review the new laws that have been introduced, removed and amended to ensure that we have a Local Law that meets the needs of the community over the next decade."

Community members are invited to review the updated draft Local Law and provide feedback until 3pm, Friday 30 August.
