Plans for new sports pavilions at the Longwarry and Western Park (Warragul) Recreation Reserves have progressed with Baw Baw Shire Council endorsing the preferred design concepts for both sites.

Council in collaboration with stakeholders representing multiple sporting clubs from both reserves developed a preferred concept design that proposes:

Longwarry Recreation Reserve

  • A new pavilion with female friendly player and umpire change rooms and amenities, that meet the current sporting guidelines.
  • New canteen/kitchen, community meeting space, public toilets and first aid room.
  • Refurbishing and upgrading of the existing netball pavilion, including compliant change rooms, amenities, umpires facilities and office space

Western Park, Warragul

  • Development of a new satellite pavilion to service oval two with 2 player change rooms and amenities, umpires facilities and kiosk
  • A new pavilion for oval 1, through the demolition of the existing Answerth Pavilion and Warragul Industrials Football Club Social Rooms.
  • The new two storey pavilion would include 4 female friendly flexible player change rooms and amenities
  • Umpires facilities, canteen, first aid room, storage spaces
  • Community space with kitchen facilities, office, and views to both ovals
  • Public toilets

Upgrades to the sports pavilions at Longwarry and Western Park Recreation Reserves are key projects identified in the relevant recreation reserve masterplans to better cater to the diverse and growing sporting needs of the Baw Baw Shire Community

With the preferred design concepts now endorsed the projects will proceed to the detailed design phase to get the projects shovel ready and in a position for future funding.

"It is fantastic to see these two key upgrade projects progress to the next stage of planning.

The proposed design concepts for both sites will see increased community spaces, additional amenities and female friendly facilities that further encourages equal treatment and participation at the clubs.

"The existing Longwarry Recreation Reserve pavilion is outdated and in need of an upgrade to cater to the increase of users that we have seen over time.

The concept designs propose a number of upgrades but most importantly a communal public space that the Longwarry community and sporting clubs would greatly benefit from."

"Western Park reserve can be described as the premier sporting location within the Shire and is used multiple sporting clubs.

That's why it is so important to make sure these facilities are up to scratch and meeting the needs of the clubs."
