Snowy Monaro Regional Council has received a Notice of Intention to Issue a Performance Improvement Order from the Honourable Ron Hoenig, MP, Minister for Local Government, under Section 438a of the Local Government Act 1993.

Council has scheduled an extraordinary council meeting at 10am on Monday 23 December 2024 at 81 Commissioner Street, Cooma. At the meeting, councillors will consider what response, if any, Council will provide to the Minister's Notice of Intention.

This meeting is open to the public.

The reasons provided by the Minister for issuing this Notice of Intention relate to:

  • Councillor conduct in the chamber, in correspondence, and on social media
  • Concerns over the continuation of actions being taken to improve Council's financial viability

Contained in the proposed Performance Improvement Order are required improvements councillors and Council as an organisation must make before the order may be lifted.

The required improvements for councillor conduct are in-line with Council's current Code of Conduct and Code of Meeting Practice.

Required improvements to Council's financial viability are in-line with Council's current long term financial plan, following significant reforms and improvements put in place over the course of recent years.

A business paper for the upcoming meeting is available on Council's website.
