Central Goldfields Shire Council has been working with a small group of local artists to bring the Christmas spirit to shop windows across the Shire through a series of 20 Christmas murals.

Council was originally approached to help get the project off the ground by local artist and Dunolly resident Louise Cooper. Artists who have worked on the project also include Fiona Sommerville, Judy Meldrum, Peg Payne and Kerri White.

Ms Cooper had previously worked on a similar project in Benalla last year and thought it would a great initiative for Central Goldfields Shire, Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said.

"Louise Cooper has been key in the project and Council is grateful for her experience and skill in ensuring we were able to get several windows completed with such a short time frame," he said.

"It has been wonderful to see business owners and artists working together to bring Christmas to our Shire."

Some of the Christmas murals community members will see are selfie walls, angel wings, art work inspired by school children in Talbot and Bealiba, Australian Christmas themes with native flora and fauna as well as more traditional Christmas images.

Christmas murals can be found in Carisbrook, Dunolly, Maryborough and Talbot and residents are encouraged to see them.
