Applications are now open for Nillumbik's Place Activation and Event Grant Program, designed to support individuals, community groups, and organisations in creating engaging placemaking activities and new events across Nillumbik.
The grants aim to strengthen community connections, boost the local economy, and bring more cultural activities to the Shire.
Placemaking is a way to improve public spaces by turning them into vibrant areas where people want to gather, connect, and enjoy. It involves designing or adding features that make a space feel more welcoming, interesting, and safe.
Examples of placemaking include art installations, seating areas, signage, events, or community gardens.
The new Large Event Grant is designed for large-scale events with a public focus, enhancing the Shire's event calendar.
Examples might include a food and wine festival highlighting local producers, an arts and craft fair with live demonstrations, or a music concert in an outdoor setting. These events are expected to promote local economic growth and bring residents and visitors together for memorable experiences.
The 2024-25 program has two types of grants:
Stream 1: Small Place Activation Grants – offering up to $4,500 (from a total fund of $20,000) for community-led projects that make public spaces more inviting and vibrant. Projects must take place between 1 January and 30 June 2025.
Stream 2: Large Event Grants – providing one-time grants between $5,000 and $15,000 (from a $30,000 fund) to support new and emerging large events expected to attract over 1,000 people. These events should help grow Nillumbik's visitor economy and must take place between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.
Applications for the Large Event Grant close on Sunday 2 February 2025 at 11.59pm and the Small Place Activation Grants close on Sunday 4 May 2025 at 11.59pm or until funds are exhausted.
To support applicants, Council will host an online information session on Tuesday 26 November 2024 from 6pm to 7pm, where applicants can learn more about eligibility and the application process.
Applicants are encouraged to consult with Council Officers to ensure their project aligns with Council priorities.
