Council Hails Funding for North Port Oval Upgrades

City of Port Phillip
The City of Port Phillip welcomes the federal election commitment for $1.4 million for upgrades to North Port Oval, Port Melbourne.

The City of Port Phillip is dedicated to providing high-quality sport and recreation facilities for the community. Over the past few years council has seen some significant moments for local community sport and recreation, including sports club successes, new women and girls teams, and Council embarking on a renewed Sport and Active Recreation Strategy to further understand and respond to community needs.

Notably, Council invested $30 million to acquire the Australia Post site in Port Melbourne with the view of securing an open space future for the area. This process will begin with the demolition of the Australia Post site and a Masterplan process to map the Sandridge Recreation Precinct development, scheduled to commence this year.

To support Council's works, on 9 April 2025, Liberal candidate Benson Saulo committed $1.4 million to deliver complimentary upgrades to North Port Oval.

If elected, Council will work with the tenant sports clubs, Port Melbourne Football and Cricket Clubs to identify priority uplifts that are complementary to the Sandridge Recreation Precinct Masterplan as it is being developed. All proposed uplifts would provide shared benefits for local residents as well as the local sporting clubs.
