Council Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Dumping

Hume City Council - Illegal Rubbish Dumping-2.jpg

The issue of illegal dumping is once again under the spotlight as Council ramps up its campaign to stamp out behaviour that turns our towns into tips.

The issue is not new, and it's certainly not unique to Hume City, but after another year watching the rubbish pile up Council is kicking off the 2025 with its strongest message yet.

In the coming months you'll notice a renewed push toward a clean and safe Hume as Council targets offenders dumping their trash on our streets.

Be assured, we actively monitor and enforce regulations to prevent illegal dumping, issuing fines ranging from $385 to $9616, depending on the severity of the offence.

History tells us that one piece of dumped rubbish can quickly become a pile, and then a major problem.

If you witness illegal dumping or any suspicious activities in the community, you can report it online, through the Snap Send Solve app, or by calling us.

Residents have access to several free resources for waste disposal, including:

  • Hard waste collection

  • Access to the Resource Recovery Centre

  • Hume Clean Days

  • Tree mulching days

  • Bundled branch collections

We will not tolerate those who treat our city like their personal rubbish tip.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Cr Jarrod Bell:

"Illegal dumping is costing hard working rate payers a fortune every year.

"These are funds that could be better spent on vital services, community projects, and maintaining our City's facilities.

"By using many of our free services and reporting illegal dumping when you see it, you're playing a key role in keeping our community clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone."
