Orange City Council has been chosen to trial a pilot program for LiveUp, a healthy ageing initiative funded by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care.
HEALTHY AGEING: LiveUp can help people stay independent for longer as they age.
In short: Orange City Council is trialling a face-to-face pilot program for healthy ageing initiative LiveUp.
LiveUp is a free healthy ageing platform providing advice and guidance to help people stay independent for longer as they age.
What's next: Council is looking for 20 to 30 people to join the LiveUp Local Focus Group for the duration of the trial
LiveUp is a free healthy ageing platform delivered online or over the phone by not-for-profit organisation iLA, providing advice and guidance to help people stay independent for longer as they age.
The Council is the first organisation to trial the face-to face delivery of the program to assess the benefits to older people.
Orange Mayor Tony Mileto says Council is looking for 20 to 30 people to join the LiveUp Local Focus Group for the duration of the trial. The focus group will meet monthly to discuss their experiences.
"This pilot program will evaluate the success of the program where seniors receive more personalised one-on-one support, which could make participants feel more at ease and more willing to talk about their ageing concerns," Cr Mileto said.
The program is available for people aged 55 and over, or Indigenous Australians aged 50 and over, and will be delivered by Orange City Council Community Services Project Officer Sam Vennard.
Sam will work with participants to develop a 'healthy ageing map' by setting personal goals and providing resources such as low-level assistive technology to help people maintain healthy ageing, physical health and social connections.
