Council Makes Appointments To Advisory Committees

Yarra City Council last night announced Councillor appointments to its Advisory Committees which enable community members to have input into our policies, directions and activities.

Cr McKenzie has been appointed to the Active Ageing Advisory Committee, which provides information, support and advice to Council on the needs, interests and well-being of people aged 50 +.

Cr Davies, Cr Harrison and Cr Wade have been appointed to the Active Transport Advisory Committee, which provides Council with advice to support its objective of reducing car dependency in the community and increasing the use of active transport throughout the municipality.

Cr McKenzie has been appointed to the Arts Advisory Committee, a formal mechanism for Council to consult with key stakeholders, seek specialist advice and enable community participation in arts and cultural planning and development.

Mayor Cr Jolly and Cr Gomez have been appointed to the Audit and Risk Committee, which provides independent and objective assurance and assistance to the Yarra City Council and its Chief Executive Officer on Council's risk management, its control and compliance framework, and its external financial and performance accountability and responsibilities.

Cr Aston, Cr Davies, Cr Ho, Cr Crossland and Cr Gomez have been appointed to the Business Advisory Group, a forum for business representatives to provide Council with feedback and practical advice regarding ways in which Council can engage with and further assist key sectors within the business community.

All Councillors have been appointed to the Chief Executive Officer Employment and Remuneration Committee, which supports the Council in the performance management process for the Chief Executive Officer.

Cr Harrison has been appointed to the Disability Advisory Committee, which provides advice and support to us on how we can improve the wellbeing of people with disability and their carers.

Cr Aston have been appointed to the Environment Advisory Committee, which represents interests pertaining to all aspects of urban environmental sustainability including (but not limited to) climate change, resource efficiency across water, waste and energy, urban greening and natural capital, local food systems, and the built environment.

Cr McKenzie has been appointed to the Family and Children's Services Advisory Committee, which supports the Council on a range of services to support families and children in the community, with specific programs, activities and resources for parents, carers and children.

Cr Gomez and Cr Davies have been appointed to the Heritage Advisory Committee, which provides advice to Council on heritage matters including Yarra's natural, built, and cultural heritage.

Cr Ho has been appointed to the Multicultural Advisory Group, which provides a forum for ongoing communication and consultation between multicultural communities and Yarra City Council across a broad range of issues impacting on those communities.

Cr Crossland has been appointed to the Rainbow Advisory Committee, which provides information, support and advice, and a mechanism for communication and consultation between LGBTIQA+ communities and Council on issues affecting the LGBTIQA+ community.

Cr Wade has been appointed to the Yana Ngargna Advisory Group, which was established as a partnership between Yarra City Council and the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Cr Harrison has been appointed to the Yarra Libraries Advisory Group, which provides advice on issues relating to public library services across the City of Yarra.

In addition to these appointments, Council also agreed to establish three new Advisory Committees (AC) to be chaired by a Councillor(s) and a public expression of interest process be implemented to seek resident volunteers.

The new Advisory Committees are:

Housing Advisory Committee, which has appointed Cr Aston, Cr McKenzie and Cr Wade

Planning Advisory Committee, which has appointed Cr Davies and Cr Gomez

Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee, which has appointed Cr Aston, Cr Davies and Cr Gomez.
