We don't like to think about it, but there's a lot of underground pipes needed to make sure when you flush, everything goes where it needs to go.
That's why we have committed $5 million over the next two years to our annual sewer relining program, which repairs damaged pipes and keeps poo moving down the line.
Sewer relining involves inserting a flexible, durable lining into the damaged pipes to seal leaks, cracks and unsmooth surfaces.
It is a cost-effective way to renew and significantly extend the life of the pipes as there is no need for excavation works, which can add to expenses, cause disruptions to other services and the community, and potentially damage other assets such as drains.
Sites for relining are determined through CCTV pipe inspections, which are able to assess the condition of the pipes and identify any potential defects.
Relining Solutions Pty Ltd, which completed the 2023/24 sewer relining works, has been awarded the contract for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 programs.
