Hawkesbury City Council joined with McGraths Hill residents on Wednesday 21 June 2023 to celebrate the opening of a new $143,000 playground at Ivy Avenue Reserve.
As part of council's capital works renewal program, the new playground replaced the outdated and aging play equipment. The new playspace features swings, a hammock swing, climbing fort with slide, spiderweb climbing net, spinner and rocker. The project also included new softfall, connection paths, and retained the existing barrier fence.
The playground design was chosen by the community from three options presented to them by Council in late 2022. Locals were treated to free coffee, donuts and facepainting at the opening.
Hawkesbury Mayor Sarah McMahon said Council is committed to improving playgrounds right across the Hawkesbury.
"Playgrounds are a fantastic way for young families to come together to play, as well as providing space to encourage our children to be fit and healthy," Mayor McMahon said.
"Our residents are very eager to tell us what they want to see in their local playgrounds and we are listening. We will soon trial a new and more engaging way for residents to have their say on future playground designs.
"We want our playgrounds to be fun, welcoming spaces that meet the needs of our local communities."
In 2023/2024, we will be replacing the playgrounds at Pitt Town Memorial Park, Jack Gow Memorial Park in McGraths Hill, Freemans Reach Reserve Playground and Wilberforce Park, while we work on updating our strategy for providing these important assets to our community.
