Council has resolved to pursue further funding for our community, with plans for two key bushfire recovery and resilience building initiatives proposed.
Two streams of funding is being requested: $980,000 over two years to fund a Community Resilience and Readiness Program (Community Ready), and $960,000 to upgrade and seal part of Croft Road, Lenswood, which leads to the newly reopened Fox Creek Bike Park in Cudlee Creek Forest.
The Community Ready program will work with communities to build their own resilience and plan recoveries for future disasters.
Mayor Jan-Claire Wisdom says that great results have already been seen from a pilot program in Gumeracha, which resulted in the creation of the Gumeracha Resilience Group who continue to meet, "sharing information and organising events".
"The idea is to complement the planning people do at a household level with planning at a whole of community level," she said.
The funding to upgrade Croft Road aligns with the upgrades being undertaken by Forestry SA for the Fox Creek Bike Park.
"The upgraded bike park will boost the local economy by attracting more visitors and that means more traffic on Croft Road to the head of the trails," said Mayor Wisdom.
"Some minor widening, drainage improvements and sealing will ensure safe and environmentally sound access to the Bike Park."
