City of Adelaide today will launch a program to promote live music in partnership with a national organisation devoted to helping the troubled industry.
The program will be supported by a new pocket guide to music venues, festivals and experiences within the CBD and North Adelaide, to be launched at a live music industry forum hosted by Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith.
The Lord Mayor said she was delighted to announce Council will work with the national Live Music Office on the City of Adelaide Live and Local program.
"Music has always been at the heart of Adelaide's cultural life and Adelaide is proudly Australia's first and only UNESCO City of Music," said the Lord Mayor.
"The Live and Local program amplifies Council's commitment to live and local music in the lead up to the tenth anniversary in 2025 of its designation as a Creative City.
"The program is a comprehensive capacity building program designed to showcase, support and celebrate our unique music culture and community.
"Its national best practice activities and strategies - paired with the City of Adelaide's investment in live music initiatives - will benefit musicians, venue owners and operators, aligned creative practitioners, businesses and audiences."
Key commitments of the program include a comprehensive review of policy, regulation and strategy - supported by highly regarded specialist John Wardle - to develop a new Live Music Action Plan for the City of Adelaide.
The usefulness and impact of the City of Adelaide Live and Local program will be evaluated by researchers from Griffith University.
This program delivers on City of Adelaide's Strategic Plan commitment to amplify Adelaide's status as a UNESCO City of Music.
It builds on sector insights and recommendations from the Lord Mayor's Round Table on the Night Time Entertainment Economy earlier this year and supports the City of Adelaide's Economic Development Strategy.
