The Hills Shire Council is literally putting a spotlight on mental health, and has lit up its atrium at its Norwest Administration Centre in the colours of blue and green to acknowledge this.
The atrium will continue to shine bright up until Sunday, October 17.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said October was Mental Health Month and Council wanted to raise awareness of this.
"This month encourages all of us to think about the state of our own mental health and the importance of good mental wellbeing in our everyday lives," Mayor Byrne said.
"This is especially important as we emerge from lockdown and navigate life under the new 'COVID normal'.
"Before the pandemic, it was reported that about 45 per cent of Australian adults suffered from a mental illness and I'm sure there's not too many people who haven't been affected in some way by this pandemic.
"I highly encourage residents to take this weekend to reflect and check-in on the state of their own mental health, and the wellbeing of family and friends.
"Asking 'are you OK?' could just save a life!" Mayor Byrne added.
