Willoughby City Council, extends its acknowledgment of the National Referendum result on The Voice to Parliament and expresses its unwavering commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Mayor Tanya Taylor emphasised the importance of respecting the democratic process while recognising the collective support for the 'Voice to Parliament' within the North Sydney Federal electorate.
"The community has spoken and expressed their views on this Referendum. Council acknowledges the North Sydney Federal electorate and our residents' support for the voice to parliament," Mayor Taylor stated.
"Despite the national results, Australia, and in particular Willoughby, now has to unite and move forward on making material progress at closing the gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
"There is a strong mandate from our community to listen to our first nation's people and champion solutions as much as we can."
Council reaffirmed its commitment to the 'Uluru Statement of the Heart' as part of a Mayoral Minute at its August General Council meeting.
