♦ In short: Now's the chance to become a member of Council's network of community committees.

♦ There are 24 committee which provide feedback to Council on a range of topics.

♦ What's next: The deadline for EIOs to join a committee is 17 January, 2025.

Orange City Council has 24 community committees which help guide the development of council policy in key areas and help the Council stay in touch with community insights and experience.

The membership of all of the committees is renewed at the start of each new Council term.

Orange Mayor Tony Mileto said the range of topics for the committees has expanded.

"The topics that benefit from the work of a community committee change from time to time, so this term there are two new names on the list and other former committees came to an end," Cr Tony Mileto said. "The new conservatorium, for example, is now being built so the work of that committee that helped with design ideas is now complete."

"The two new committees reflect growing community interest in important topics. The 'Major Projects & Infrastructure' committee will be a way for residents to find out more about the key construction projects Council is working on. Across Australia, there's a growing determination to discover new ways to tackle Family & Domestic Violence, so there's a new committee that will come together to seek local solutions.

"During the last term both the Lucknow and Clifton Grove community committees put some runs on the board by working together to on some key projects.

"The Companion Animals Committee does important work by monitoring what's happening at our pound. There's a committee which makes important suggestions about local parks and trees. Another focusses on local environmental issues, while another is a terrific sounding board for Council when it comes to local sports facilities.

"I'd encourage any resident to look at the full list of the 24 committees on the Council website and consider if they can make a valuable contribution on a topic in which they have some expertise or a strong interest. It's also a great way of finding out how the Council works."

Expressions of interest have now opened and completed application forms must be lodged by 17 January 2025.
