Orange City Council is seeking nominations for a community member to join a key planning panel.
The Western Regional Planning Panel is one of a number across the state, established by the NSW Government, to determine development proposals of regional significance.
The Planning Panels determine regionally significant development applications (DAs) in each local government area. There are five panel members on the panel which decides on proposals in the Orange area: three appointed by the state government and two appointed by Orange City Council.
The two locally appointed members include one councillor and one member of the community with appropriate expertise. The councillor role has been filled Cr Mel McDonnell with Cr Gerald Power as a back-up.
The Council appointments are for a three-year term.
Mayor Tony Mileto believes it's an important opportunity for a community member.
"The Western Regional Planning Panel considers a range of major projects with regional significance," Cr Mileto said.
"As they consider these important DAs, it's important that the panel hears from citizens who can bring local perspectives to the table."
"I'd encourage anyone who believes they have the right expertise to consider putting in an application."
