Baw Baw Shire Council is asking for community input to help develop the Yarragon Township Plan and Urban Design Framework – an important project that will ultimately outline a long-term plan and vision for the future development of Yarragon.
SMEC Consultants have been appointed by Council to prepare these important planning documents to cover topics relating to land use and development, public spaces, landscaping, and street design.
The Township Plan and Urban Design Framework will provide a planning outline for Yarragon and help guide decisions and recommendations for future investments, infrastructure improvements and development proposals.
As part of the first stage of consultation, Council held a pop-up market at the Yarragon Community Craft and Produce Market on 27 November 2021.
The pop up was very well attended and provided an opportunity for the community to speak directly with Council officers about their thoughts and plans for Yarragon in the future.
Making it easy for the community to provide their input
To make it easy for residents to provide their input, Council has created a short and simple survey to get a better understanding of the community's long-term vision when developing the Yarragon Township Plan.
The survey is quick and easy to complete and requires no prior knowledge of the project.
It provides an opportunity for all community members to have their views heard on a range of topics including:
- township character
- residential and commercial development
- parks and open space
- streetscape design
- sporting facilities
The survey is available to complete until 5pm Wednesday 15 December 2021.
Council will collate and review all the community input received from the market pop-up and the survey. This information will assist in creating a background report that will help inform and prepare the draft Yarragon Township Plan early next year.
Quote attributable to Mayor Cr Michael Leaney
"This consultation opportunity is all about Council getting a better understanding of the community's vision for Yarragon in the future. We know our community and visitors love the village feel and country town character that Yarragon is known for.
What we're keen to understand is how people feel about things like future residential development, industrial areas, streetscapes and community facilities that will be needed in the years to come. The views you share will help us develop a Yarragon Township Plan and Urban Design Framework that fits the community's vision and expectations.
I encourage everyone to fill out the short survey while it's available. It doesn't take very long and will make a huge difference in the development of these two important plans."
