Council will apply for $1 million in grant funding for initiatives and programs that helped early recovery efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the associated flooding.
The funding, which will also support projects that will mitigate the impacts of future disaster events, is being sought via the Local Recovery and Resilience Grant (LRRG) – a joint initiative by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
The aim is to accelerate early recovery efforts and enhance resilience by supporting activities that assist in economic and social recovery, strengthen disaster preparedness, and mitigate future disaster impacts.
Council's submission details 13 projects, which includes $161,700 to cover costs such as the hire of cars and a crane following the destruction of Fisheries Bridge; $125,000 to provide real-time flash flooding intel; and over $500,000 for a Disaster Planner and Disaster Recovery Coordinator with the Disaster Management Unit.
