Wollongong City Council will host its upcoming 'Doing Business with Council' event on 28 October 2024, designed to provide local businesses with upcoming opportunities to partner with Council and equip suppliers with an understanding of Councils' Procurement Framework and processes.
Wollongong City Council General Manager Greg Doyle said it was vital local businesses had the opportunity to work with Council to deliver key projects and important services for our local community.
"Our Infrastructure Delivery Program will be worth $755M across over 550 projects between now and 2028, and this presents significant opportunities for local suppliers who have the opportunity to tender to work for their local community,'' he said.
"The focus of this event is to give our local business community the knowledge and understanding of how they can maximise opportunities available through Council projects by getting a rundown of Council's tender and procurement processes.
"Wollongong City Council is a significant local employer with the majority of our staff working and living in the local community. NIEIR modelling accessed via Economy.id shows that $100m of additional spending in Wollongong's construction sector is estimated to support over 750 direct and indirect local jobs over one year. By building knowledge with businesses and industry in the city, we're also enabling other locals to be employed in their local area.''
The event is open to businesses across sectors such as building and construction, maintenance, professional services, and supply of goods. Attendees will learn how to increase their chance of securing contracts over the next 12 months and beyond, with a particular focus on Council's local content weighting policy, which prioritises local suppliers in quotation and tender submissions.
"Our emphasis on local suppliers not only strengthens our economy but also fosters a resilient and connected community. Attendees will also hear about upcoming Council contract panels that are due for renewal." Mr Doyle said.
Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said the event aims to build on last year's momentum where representatives from 60 businesses attended in person and a further 120 people joined in online.
"We're hoping to see even more local businesses take advantage of the opportunities Council offers, the local content weighting policy provides Wollongong businesses with a real edge," she said.
The 2024 event will feature presentations from Council managers on key topics such as our upcoming infrastructure investment, Councils procurement and tendering procedures, how to improve submissions, and pre-qualification processes.
Representatives from Local Government Procurement will also provide insights on state-wide business opportunities across the NSW local government sector. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A session.
The hybrid event will be held at Council's Administration Building, 41 Burelli St, Wollongong, or people can attend online. Registration is essential via Eventbrite.
