Residents throughout the Region are set to benefit with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) receiving more than $6.4 million through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
TRC Mayor Geoff McDonald welcomed the announcement, reinstating the importance of external funding for local governments.
"The importance of funding like this can't be understated," Mayor McDonald said.
"Our annual budget is heavily reliant on our ratepayers so any time we can receive some form of external funding that reduces the burden on our community is certainly welcome.
"This funding will assist the ongoing economic development of our Region."
TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said Council would now go through the process of determining which projects would be allocated funding from this program.
"We have one of the longest road networks throughout Queensland and this program will help Council improve its condition," she said.
"In addition to this, there are opportunities to upgrade community infrastructure with part of the funding from last year's program spent on the Rockville Park Clubhouse Upgrade Project."
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories, the Hon Kristy McBain said, "Funding through the LRCI program continues to support Toowoomba Regional Council deliver important road and community infrastructure projects that have lasting benefits in this fast-growing Region.
"It's important that local infrastructure in Toowoomba is fit-for-purpose, and with the Council now locking in their Phase 4 funding agreement, over $6.4 million will flow to support a range of high-priority projects."
In total, Toowoomba Regional Council will receive $6,452,830 from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
