Council to make sand available

With more rain predicted this week, Toowoomba Regional Council is working with the SES to ensure sandbagging options are available for the communities most in need.

Mayor Paul Antonio said it was important the community remained on alert with storms forecast from tomorrow onwards.

"While we aren't anticipating rain levels like we saw last week, the ground is saturated and we know rain is unpredictable so we want our residents to be ready for whatever may come," Mayor Antonio said.

"To do this, Council will be making sand available for sandbagging to residents who would like to prepare themselves. Residents will be required to bring their own shovel and sandbags.

"It's important to note, the SES only provides sandbags in emergency situations to protect a dwelling from inundation.

"If your property isn't facing immediate threat of inundation but you're wanting to stay prepared in case water levels rise, we've provided sand for bagging at the following locations," he said.

Council is delivering sand to these areas:

  • Oakey - In front of the Oakey SES, 4-20 Lorrimer Street
  • Jondaryan - Duke Street in Jondaryan (near the steam train)
  • Goombungee - SES shed at Corner of Mocatta Street and Cooke Street.
