The Greenhill Recreation Precinct at Wallan is set to move a step closer to fruition when the master plan goes to Council for endorsement on Monday night.
This marks a significant milestone for the project, which aims to transform the site at 300 Northern Highway, Wallan, into a premier sporting and environmental hub.
The precinct will offer facilities for organised sports while highlighting the Greenhill Cone's environmental and cultural importance.
Shaped through extensive community consultation, the master plan proposes to bring together aquatic facilities, gymnastics, indoor and outdoor sports courts, sports ovals, open spaces, and walking tracks, providing a wide range of activities for community members of all ages.
These facilities are designed to meet the diverse needs of the growing community, integrating seamlessly with Wallan's natural surroundings, including the iconic Green Hill volcanic cone.
Federal and State Government funding will be required to make this masterplan a reality.
Key points of the master plan:
- Improved facilities for cricket, football, netball, bowls and tennis
- New facilities including an aquatic centre, gymnastics stadium courts and walking trails
- New multipurpose indoor and outdoor courts
- Restoration of the ecology and biodiversity at Greenhill will contribute to the broader regional network of waterways and parklands
