Council Unveils 2023/24 Annual Financial Report

Leeton Shire Council

Leeton Shire Council is pleased to present the community the 2023/24 Annual Report, which is the final annual report for the 2021 - 2024 term of Council.

The Annual Report is a key point of accountability between Leeton Shire Council and the Leeton Shire community. It provides the community with an update on Council's progress in implementing the Delivery Program 2022–2025 through the actions and activities set out in the Operational Plan 2023/24.

Reflecting on the previous financial year, Leeton Shire Council's General Manager, Jackie Kruger, said it was another big one for Leeton Shire with the elected Councillors and various operational teams regularly going above and beyond to deliver for the community, sometimes under very challenging circumstances.

Some highlights from 2023/24 include:

  • Completed rating structure review to increase fairness and rebalance the rates from 1 July 2024, which involved a 2-year adjustment that will see the rate peg from farmland temporarily distributed across to business, and the introduction of a new 'business industrial' rating category;
  • Completed major capital works, including Leeton Pool waterslide, Wamoon Sewerage Scheme, Leeton Early Learning Centre Expansion, Canal Street heavy vehicle bypass upgrade, and new animal pound facility at Council depot;
  • Benefited from $17.14M in grants and contributions, with $423K of that from various developer contributions;
  • Approved 141 development applications with a combined value of $19.5M;
  • Undertook detailed planning, preparation, education and procurement in anticipation of launching FOGO from 1 July 2024. Through a successful joint tender process with RAMJO, Council secured the (new) 3rd bin for only an extra $15 per household per annum.
  • Commenced development of an Integrated Land Use, Transport and Infrastructure Plan to complement Leeton Shire's newly adopted Housing Strategy.

Mayor Cr George Weston expressed his gratitude to the previous term of Council and the dedicated Council staff.

"Please take the time to review this Annual Report – it is a great reminder of the significant breadth of functions Council delivers, noting too the high levels of compliance obligations that must be reported each year," said Mayor Weston.
