Council is urging residents to stay out of waterways and beaches as they remain closed, while Council continues water quality testing following the recent rain event.
Council closed The Strand, including The Rockpool, Pallarenda and Five Mile Beach earlier this month as water may have been contaminated.
Now, Council water quality experts are reminding residents that the following areas remain closed to the public, including for fishing and recreational access:
- The Rockpool
- The Tobruk Pool end of the strand beach
- Riverway Lagoons
- Pallarenda
- Anderson Park and Balls Lane
- Mindham Park
- Idalia lakes
- Castletown lakes
- Showgrounds lakes
- Annandale's green corridors
- Sussex Street green drains
- Ross River
- Ross Creek.
"Floodwaters can contain many bacteria that can make you unwell. Council proactively closed beaches at The Strand, Pallarenda and Five Mile Beach, as well as The Rockpool, to ensure residents and visitors were not coming in contact with contaminated water," Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said.
"Water in these areas has become contaminated during the rain event and should be avoided."
Council will continue to water test regularly.
