Orange City Council is calling for community support to curb vandalism and anti-social behaviour following a recent increase in acts of vandalism.
Orange Mayor Jason Hamling expressed his disappointment over the selfish actions of a few individuals.
"Vandalism in Orange affects everyone and costs the community thousands of dollars each year," Cr Hamling said.
Council facilities in public spaces, including toilet blocks, outdoor tables and chairs, lights, solar panels, playground equipment, electric barbecues, fencing and signage have all been targeted.
In the 2022 / 2023 financial year, 34 acts of graffiti and 10 acts of vandalism were reported to Council. The estimated cost of these vandalism acts is $90,978.
"Vandalism doesn't only impact residents but leaves a lasting impression on visitors as well, damaging the appearance of our town as Orange grows as a tourism destination," Cr Hamling said.
"I am asking residents to keep an eye out for vandalism in our community spaces and report it to Council. Don't assume someone else will do it, report it so we can remove it.
"And if you see someone committing an act of vandalism, contact the police immediately."
