Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Mayor Paul Antonio has welcomed the State Government's funding announcement for the Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline.
"This is a major project that will help build further redundancy in our water network," Mayor Antonio said.
"Last November, Council supported the project, subject to several conditions.
"In giving this support, Council agreed that each of these conditions is required to be approved by Council resolution.
"While we acknowledge the needs of Southern Downs residents, from day one, our primary concern has been for our community.
"I'm pleased the State Government has listened to our needs and given assurances this project will not impact our existing water supply, which was a key concern for us.
"The government has also committed to upgrading the Wivenhoe Pump Station and other infrastructure that will help improve our water network.
"This will allow us to connect our southern towns of Cambooya, Greenmount, Nobby and Clifton to the Toowoomba Water Bulk Supply, making our Region more drought resilient.
"A lot of work has gone into this proposal that will provide substantial value for the Toowoomba Region, and I would like to thank the Minister for Water Glenn Butcher, for the role he has played to date.
"There will no doubt be many more conversations that need to happen throughout the delivery of the project. We will continue to work with the State Government on each step."
