Rockhampton Regional Council has welcomed a new intake of apprentices and trainees for the New Year, with 18 school leavers choosing to begin their careers with Council.
Council will also see an additional seven individuals commence their apprenticeship or traineeship later this year.
The apprentices and trainees will gain hands-on experience as they undertake training across a variety of fields business, horticulture, arboriculture, live production services, electrical and instrumentation, engineering and heavy vehicle and mechanical technology.
Rockhampton Regional Council CEO Evan Pardon said Council staff welcomed the cohort earlier this week as they commenced their first day with Council.
"It was fantastic to see such eager individuals who will now develop their skills and careers here at Council," Mr Pardon said.
"Through hands-on experience and guidance from our knowledgeable leaders and staff, these apprentices and trainees will gain essential skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications.
"What they learn through Council will help open many doors to many future career opportunities, including here at Council."
The Queensland Government's First Start Funding Program has contributed $577,500.00 this year, supporting 10 apprentice positions and 15 trainee positions.
"We are grateful for the Queensland Government's support," Mr Pardon said.
"This latest cohort builds on Council's ongoing commitment to fostering local talent.
"Over the past five years, 150 apprentices and trainees have successfully completed their training with Council, contributing to a skilled workforce and a thriving community.
"I'd like to thank everyone involved in this program, from our dedicated supervisors to our external training providers, for their efforts in fostering local talent.
"I wish all our apprentices and trainees the very best as they embark on this journey."
