An unnamed road in Pimpinio has received its long-awaited title following Monday's Council meeting.
The road, which connects Drendels Road and Reinheimer Road, is now known as Harnath Road.
The name was proposed to Council by Pimpinio's Roger Thamm in honour of his late grandfather Johann Frederick "Fred" Harnath and great-grandfather Johann Harnath.
The naming process conforms with the 'Naming rules for places in Victoria' requirements and was approved at Council's August meeting following community consultation.
The Harnath family are generational farmers, who initially settled in the Vectis East area after relocating from Lake Linlithgow and acquiring land between 1872 and 1873. Brothers Martin and Johann farmed the area together for several years until Martin surrendered his share to Johann.
Following Johann's passing in 1887, his wife and their son, Fred continued farming the property. Fred later sold his inherited share of the property and relocated to Greenland Dam, now Dooen. Fred was an active community member, taking part in send-offs and welcomes for First World War servicemen and playing a major role in laying the first telephone lines in the area.
Fred married in 1933 and welcomed a son, John Graham Harnath. John later purchased land in Pimpinio. Both properties are still owned and farmed by John and his stepsons.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate in the naming process in Victoria by proposing a name, initiating a proposal or responding to a relevant naming authority regarding a naming proposal.
