Councillors have agreed to develop holistic values that set the strategic direction and tone of Council in the delivery of community-centric services.
A motion was considered at the 6 November 2024 Council meeting to undertake a Councillor-led project to clearly define values around fairness, accountability, transparency and professionalism, to be embedded into Council.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said the time is right to review what Council stands for.
"I thank Councillor Nadin for bringing this item to Council for consideration and Councillor O'Neil for her simplification of the approach we take to setting values as we kick off the new term" Cr Fitzpatrick said.
"It is important we collectively set the direction for this term of Council and although the original motion was modified, there is widespread agreement among Councillors that it is worth reviewing what we stand for as a Council.
"This isn't something we want to rush, particularly given we have four of our nine Councillors new to their role.
"I think there is clear sentiment among the community and Councillors that we want the community to understand what Council does, why it matters and how they can get involved in the priorities."
