Indigo Shire Council has been announced as a finalist in Tennis Victoria's 2022 Tennis Awards.
Nominated in the category "Supporting Tennis – Local Government Award", Council has initiated major facility upgrades across the Shire to support local tennis Clubs and Mayor Bernard Gaffney is thrilled that this support has been recognised.
"We've recently completed and are in the process of completing projects totalling more than $3M. We're committed to supporting our local tennis clubs to thrive well into the future to ensure our communities have opportunities to stay healthy and active."
"Earlier this year we completed construction of four new tennis courts in Beechworth along with the installation of competition standard low level LED lighting and we also recently completed the Wahgunyah Multipurpose Hardcourts project. Last year we opened the new Wooragee Tennis Courts, a $200,000 project that has provided the local community with a modern, highly valued tennis venue.
At present, we're constructing the new Kiewa Multipurpose Pavilion which will provide the local tennis club with new club rooms, that are family and female friendly, with completion expected early 2023." Mayor Gaffney said.
Tennis Victoria CEO, Adam Crameri is looking forward to recognising the incredible efforts of the Victorian tennis community across the past 12 months.
"Well done to all of our finalists for the 2022 Victorian Tennis Awards, it's an honour to recognise the achievements of the Victorian tennis community each year and celebrate what these finalists have done to drive and support tennis in Victoria. We look forward to celebrating and recognising all finalists in October."
The 2022 Victorian Tennis Awards will be held at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and online on Thursday October 27.
