Countdown Begins To First WA Space Week

  • WA Space Week to promote the State's space and cross-sector technologies
  • Series of space and technology associated events to be held 25-29 November
  • Registrations for key space conferences during the week are now open

The first ever Western Australia Space Week is all set to blast-off later this year with three major space conferences now scheduled to be held in Perth.

WA Space Week takes place between 25-29 November and the conferences will include: the Andy Thomas Space Foundation's Australian Space Education Forum (ASEF), 2024 Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (2024 IPSEC) and the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF).

ASEF will promote the space industry careers which are available to current students as well as provide training opportunities to primary and secondary school teachers on the space industry.

2024 IPSEC builds on last year's event which saw over 400 delegates from 12 countries and five space agencies attend to share ideas, promote international collaboration and explore opportunities in space and cross-sector technologies.

While the APRSAF meetings will focus on growing a sustainable and responsible space sector in the Asia-Pacific region, this will be the 30th annual session of APRSAF and the first time Perth will serve as the host location.

APRSAF is the largest space conference in the region and regularly sees attendees from more than 40 countries.

Increased adoption of space technology and space data will help to diversify WA's economy and support decarbonisation and sustainability across the resources, energy and agricultural sectors.

WA Space Week takes place between 25-29 November at Crown Perth. For more information and to register: Western Australia Space Week (waspaceweek.com.au)

As stated by Science Minister Stephen Dawson:

"WA is the place for space and the Cook Government has a very clear flight path and agenda on showcasing the burgeoning space and innovation ecosystem that is happening here.

"Space Week is the first event of its kind to be held in WA and it's a coup to having three major space conferences being scheduled during this week.

"This is a great opportunity for Western Australia to broadcast its achievements to a global audience on how vital our State is to the national and international space industry and to promote our thriving innovation and hi-tech industries.

"I highly encourage anyone who is interested in attending these fantastic conferences to register and secure their spot for a week which is sure to be out of this world."
