Detectives from Moranbah Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 33-year-old Moranbah man following the use of counterfeit money at several business across the Mackay and Moranbah area this month.
Between 5 and 6 October, police received reports from seven different businesses of counterfeit money.
It will be alleged the 33-year-old man caused an approximate loss of $700 in cash and goods to local businesses over the course of the two days.
Moranbah CIB Detective Sergeant Sheldon Livingstone said counterfeit notes can look real at quick glance and are often tricky to detect.
"We urge community members and shop owners to be vigilant when handling currency," said Detective Sergeant Livingstone
"Our investigators were able to act quickly following immediate reports from local businesses."
"If you suspect you have received counterfeit currency, we urge you to report the matter immediately to police, and try to note any relevant information about how it came into your possession."
The 33-year-old man from Moranbah has been charged with seven counts each of possessing counterfeit, utter counterfeit, and fraud and is due to appear before Moranbah Magistrates Court on 13 November.
