In an extraordinary twist of fate, a man from Cowra, New South Wales, is setting his sights on an early retirement after winning $1 million in the Saturday Lotto draw on September 9, 2023. The man was one of ten lucky Division One winners, each of whom took home a life-changing $1 million.
Speaking to lottery officials, the elated winner recounted the moment he discovered his good fortune.
"I walked into North Cowra General Store Lotteries & Pet Supplies to buy a newspaper and decided to check my Lotto ticket while I was there," he said.
"You buy a ticket, but you never actually think you'll win. When the news sank in, I was stunned. I kept thinking, 'How did this happen to me?!' I'm still in a state of disbelief, but this win feels like a massive relief. Now, I'm looking forward to investing and possibly retiring."
Tarnjeet Kaur, the owner of North Cowra General Store Lotteries & Pet Supplies, where the winning ticket was purchased, shared the excitement.
"This is the first Division One ticket we've sold since taking over the business in 2015. The last one was nearly 20 years ago," she said.
"We're thrilled that one of our customers has won such a significant prize, and we're overjoyed to be part of this memorable moment. Cowra is a small town with a strong sense of community, so this news has brought a lot of excitement to the area."
