CPSU Slams Dutton's Secret Public Service Cuts

CPSU

Peter Dutton has once again failed to be honest with Australians about which public services his government intends to cut if they win the next federal election.

CPSU National Secretary, Melissa Donnelly, said Peter Dutton's failure to be honest about the impact of 36,000 job cuts is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

"Peter Dutton is not being honest with Australians about what public services he'll cut because he wants you to believe it won't be the ones you use or rely on," Ms Donnelly said.

"He doesn't want families with loved ones in aged care to know the aged care regulator would be cut.

"He doesn't want families of people with disability to know the NDIA and the NDIS regulator would be cut.

"He doesn't want veterans to think he'll cut DVA and take things back to where they were under the Liberals - a growing backlog of more than 41,000 claims.

"He doesn't want farmers to know that they'll be impacted when he cuts staff in biosecurity who do vital work protecting Australia from harmful pests, diseases and weeds.

"Cutting thousands of jobs will have a huge impact. It means longer wait times, reduced oversight, and a decline in service quality and availability in places like Centrelink, Medicare, DVA and in our regulators like the NDIS Commission, Aged Care Commission and the ACCC.
