Cr Andrea Metcalf has been elected by her Council peers to serve a second consecutive term as Mayor, with Cr Jennifer Alden to serve as Deputy Mayor.
Mayor-elect Cr Metcalf said she was honoured to lead Council again.
"I thank my Council colleagues for this opportunity and look forward to continuing our great work together," she said.
"Our biggest task over the next 12 months will be selecting a new CEO, which will be critical to setting the future strategic direction of the organisation. Council expects this will involve an extensive search and be a highly competitive process, given Greater Bendigo's reputation as a leading regional city.
"The results of the State election will be known in less than a month, and I look forward to continuing Council's strong advocacy efforts in the lead up to next year's State and Federal budgets. We have a number of major projects we want to see delivered, as well as important local infrastructure like various tracks and trails. Knocking on doors in Canberra and on Spring Street will be a key focus.
"Council will also be looking closely at its own budget. We are about to start engaging with the community on the 2023/2024 Budget, which we know will need to include some works to repair damage caused by the recent floods.
"As we continue to emerge from COVID-19 and in preparation for the Commonwealth Games, I am interested in how Council and businesses can work together to solve skills shortages and prepare our economy for its turn on the world's stage.
"Over the coming year, I also welcome the opportunity to continue attending a range of community group meetings, school visits, presentations and other events. I really enjoy meeting with residents, it's the best part of the job as Mayor.
"It is a privilege to serve as Mayor and I am energised by this opportunity to serve a second term and continue to work towards achieving Council's vision of a bright and happy future for all residents."
"There is lots of work ahead as Council enters the third year of its term, in particular the delivery of the Managed Growth Strategy and our first Biodiversity Strategy. I am also looking forward to next year's Greater Bendigo Climate Summit, and working with Council and staff to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of our community," she said.
Cr Metcalf and Cr Alden will be installed in their roles at a special Council meeting on Tuesday November 8 at the Bendigo Town Hall.
