Be careful what you wish for:

On the 15 November 2024 you will know your chosen members of the new Council, a decision which is yours for the next 4 years - therefore choose wisely.

How does one select a new Council? Is it because of their qualifications, their nice photograph or because they have a single issue they wish to push? These may help but not exclusively.

Primarily you need to consider the candidate's passion for the community, their willingness to advocate on your behalf, their sincerity of intent and preparedness to listen and learn; to do whatever it takes to notionally fulfil the community's expectations of your Council.

To be elected as a Councillor is an exceptional honour, a position one should be extremely proud of. As a leader you are entrusted to participate and represent the community in the decision-making processes, contribute to the strategic direction of the Council through the development and review of critical strategic documents such as the Council Plan, which enables the desired vision for the future of our Shire to be realised.

As Councillor you are the conduit from community to Council, State and Federal governments.

Do not FEAR raising your hand due to the thought, "I don't know anything about being a councillor." There is an extensive induction process and endless opportunities for training throughout your term, including mentoring programs. What you do not know you can learn.

Nominations open 9 September and close 17 September at 12 noon.
