Councillor Kathy Majdlik has been elected the City of Melton Mayor for 2020/21 and Cr Goran Kesic elected Deputy Mayor at a council meeting on Monday night.
Cr Majdlik said she looked forward to fulfilling her new role.
"Being elected Mayor is an absolute honour and I would like to thank each and every one of my fellow Councillors for this privilege. I look forward to working closely with the new Deputy Mayor Cr Kesic to serve our growing city," she said.
"The COVID-19 crisis has hit everyone hard and a main focus for me, and for my fellow councillors, will be to rebuild and revitalise our local community.
"I have no doubt that we will come out of this stronger than ever. It will mean thinking creatively and innovatively to build an even better city for our residents and one we can all be proud of.
"I will ensure that we continue to advocate to the state and federal governments to secure funding for important priorities including upgrading the Western Highway, the electrification of the Melton line, and building the Melton Hospital.
"These projects have the potential to transform our city into a thriving economic centre and provide much-needed local jobs."
Cr Majdlik thanked former Mayor Cr Lara Carli and former Deputy Mayor Cr Steve Abboushi for their hard work and dedication to the community over the past 12 months.
Cr Majdlik was first elected to Council in 2008 and is serving her fourth term on Council and her third term as Mayor.
