Cr Mark Reeves of Marlo has been elected Mayor of East Gippsland Shire Council at a Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, October 28.
Cr Reeves was Deputy Mayor under Cr Mendy Urie last year.
First elected in 2012, Cr Reeves is in his third consecutive term on Council and was previously Mayor in 2013-14. He also served as Deputy Mayor in 2017-18.
Elected in 2020, Council is now in the second year of its four-year term.
Cr Arthur Allen of Lakes Entrance was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cr Reeves said it was a great time to be in regional Victoria and in particular East Gippsland.
"It is a time of optimism and we're an optimistic people, this council group can lead with enthusiasm and vision.
"When we think about home sales and builds, caravan sales, regional translocation, aqua parks in Lakes Entrance, mountain bike tracks and more, all of these point to a future that is positive and full of opportunity.
"We want to be region where our young people stay, to be educated to a world standard, to have a career and grow wealthy and start a family. World class jobs, not second-class because we're regional, but better because we are regional.
"I hope I can bring that strong sense of optimism and strong positive representation for our community," Cr Reeves said.
"The Deputy Mayor position is a very important one. I look forward to supporting the Mayor through this role over the coming year for the good of our shire and its residents," Cr Allen said.
