The Lawler Labor Government is opening new doors to get our students work ready through Vocational Education Training (VET).
VET courses integrated in Territory Education bridge the gap between industry experts and students, equipping them with work-ready skills and trade knowledge to build the next generation of skilled workers.
The Territory Labor Government is investing $110.2 million into building the workforce of the future through Budget 2024, with aims to increase the number of students achieving new qualifications and entering the jobs our industries need.
Currently, there are over 236 Government funded VET courses offered through NT education and 2024 students will now be able to access qualifications in new areas of employment including:
Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence Aeroplane) - Skill Set
· Certificate III in Drone Aviation (Remote Pilot)
· Certificate III in Real Estate Practice
· Certificate II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts industry work
· Remote VET Training Hub in Tjuwanpa encompassing Certs in Hospitality, Cooking, Arts and Trades
In 2023, 2,125 NT students across 62 schools enrolled in VET courses through NT education, with 64% becoming qualified in their new found field and third of those being identifying as Aboriginal.
These four new VET courses alongside the brand new multi-faceted training centre in Tjuwampa provide more pathways for students to acquire new skills, become qualified and thrive in the workforce of the Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory Government will also be launching in partnership with ISACNT, the Darwin VET Careers Expo today, which is expected to attract over 1,000 students to the Royal Darwin Showground to interact with over 40 different vendors representing various VET pathways.
The Darwin Vet Careers Expo will run in Darwin from the 17th to the 17th of May, and in Alice Springs at the Marian Centre on the 29th of May.
