Creative Australia Unveils Matched Funding for Artists

Creative Australia has announced the latest recipients of investment through ACF Boost, an innovative matched funding initiative offered through the Australian Cultural Fund (ACF).

This investment of $160,000 will support 32 creative projects spanning literature, performing arts, music, visual arts, film, and design, and includes recipients from all states and territories.

The initiative is facilitated by the ACF - a free platform set up for Australian artists and organisations to receive and encourage donations to the arts.

ACF Boost, launched in 2019, allows participants to leverage private sector support raised through their ACF fundraising campaigns with a small, matched funding boost from Creative Australia. ACF Boost offers matched micro-grants of up to $5,000, with the matched funding designed to amplify the impact of private donations; effectively doubling the amount of financial support participants receive. This serves as an incentive for both artists and donors by instantly increasing the impact of every donation made.

In 2024, ACF Boost participants collectively raised nearly half a million dollars, providing a much-needed investment in the arts and cultural sector. 85% of participants reached their fundraising goals, and over half of these were new to fundraising via the ACF. Artists also reported a significant increase in fundraising confidence, with 94% of artists planning to continue fundraising using the ACF platform.

Director of Private Partnerships and Impact Jayne Lovelock said:

"Since its establishment in 2013, the  ACF has helped to raise tens of millions of dollars for Australian artists, allowing them to share their stories, passion, and creativity around Australia and the world. We are delighted to be able to continue to connect art lovers and supporters as part of Creative Australia."

Among the 32 projects supported through ACF Boost:

  • Article One (QLD) Three Quarters Documentary: a feature documentary project that centres on a group of men in a small regional community working to seek answers, and find effective local responses, to why men are struggling with mental health.
  • Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation (NSW) Secrets of Dawn Regional Tour: a powerful exhibition featuring historical content and contemporary artworks exploring the impact of New South Wales Aborigines Protection Act (1909-1969), and assimilation agenda promoted by Dawn Magazine.
  • Charlee Watt (SA) Caffeine Fiend: a playful and theatrical cabaret about coffee culture and addiction. The raised funds will help elevate production quality, reach new audiences and, and foster opportunities for artistic skill development.
