Tell us a bit about who you are and what kind of creative work you make?
I am a 20-year-old violinist, who started playing the violin at 7, guided by my father's decision to enrol me in music classes at 5. I've since gained extensive experience performing with orchestras, showcasing my solo talents, and teaching violin. Specialising in Iranian violin music, I interpret compositions by esteemed composers such as Tajvidi, Khaleghi, Khorram, and Saba. My creative expression revolves around conveying the rich melodies, rhythms, and emotions of Iranian classical and folk music, aiming to preserve its beauty while infusing it with my own artistic touch.
Whereabouts do you look for creative ideas? Who or what inspires you?
I find inspiration for my creative ideas primarily from the music of Iranian composers. Their compositions, rich with cultural heritage and emotional depth, provide a wealth of inspiration for my own musical journey. From the intricate melodies to the expressive rhythms, Iranian music offers a tapestry of sounds and emotions that fuel my creativity.
How does your personal history, culture or experience inform your creative work?
Growing up as a young violinist in Iran, my father played a pivotal role in nurturing my passion for music. His guidance and support provided the foundation for my artistic journey, introducing me to the rich heritage of Persian music and instilling in me the confidence to pursue my dreams. His influence continues to shape my creative work, serving as a constant source of inspiration and encouragement.
What has been the highlight of your creative career so far?
The opportunity to perform as a soloist with a renowned music band in Australia. Since moving to Australia, this experience stands out as a pinnacle moment. It was an exhilarating experience to showcase my interpretation of Iranian violin music on such a prestigious stage, and to share the beauty of our cultural heritage with a diverse audience. The energy and connection between myself, the music, and the listeners created a memorable moment that will forever remain a high point in my artistic journey.
What is a creative project that you've worked on that you're really proud of? Why?
I'm proud of several creative projects I've worked on, including:
- Performing on National Iranian radio.
- Playing at numerous festivals, concerts, and with orchestras.
- Performing as a soloist and violin player in orchestras.
- Participating in recent performances in Sydney, Australia, such as:
- Refugee Week Celebration 2023 – Penrith City Council
- PCC Family Fun Day 2023 – Penrith City Council
- Persian New Year Celebration 2023 – Mount Colah Community Centre
- The first Iranian Music Festival with Cozy Stage band
- Harmony Day 2024 – Penrith City Council
What's your favourite part of working as an artist / creative?
My favourite part of being a violinist is the profound ability to express myself authentically and forge connections with others through my art. Whether I'm performing on stage, composing music, or teaching violin, I cherish the opportunity to share my passion and emotions with the world.
