Critical Incident Declared After Bankstown Welfare Check

Today (Thursday 11 July 2024), a critical incident investigation has been declared to investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident, including all aspects of the response from NSW Police after the death of a man in Bankstown on Friday 5 July 2024.

The NSWPF received a concern for welfare call from a member of the public about 5.40pm on Thursday 4 July 2024.

About 12.30pm on Friday 5 July 2024, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended a unit on William Street, Bankstown, regarding the concern for the welfare of a 85-year-old man.

The man was found by police inside the unit. Police commenced CPR.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics attended and declared the man deceased.

A crime scene was established and today (Thursday 11 July 2024) a critical incident was declared.

The Critical Incident Investigation Team from Cumberland Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident, including all aspects of the response from NSW Police.

That investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
