Critical Incident Declared After Crash - Cartwright

A critical incident investigation has been declared following a crash in Sydney's southwest this morning.

About 2am (Tuesday 24 December 2024), officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command were travelling on Mawson Drive, Cartwright, when they observed a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

Officers activated the warning lights of the police vehicle; however, the motorcycle continued along Mawson Drive before crashing into a power pole at the intersection of Wianamatta Drive.

The rider, a 43-year-old man, was treated at the scene by police before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

A critical incident team from Campbelltown Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
